Dalbey, Margaret Esther -
Margaret Esther Dalbey, the daughter of H.C and Anna (Duncan) Beard was born April 15, 1910 in Mount Ayr. She died January 2, 1999 at the Ringgold County Hospital. She graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1928 and then attended Iowa State College. After obtaining her teaching certificate, she taught Home Economics and English in Diagonal.
Margaret married Jackson Y. Dalbey June 3, 1934 in Mount Ayr. To this union was born a daughter, Sandra Ann, sharing the same birthday with her mother. Jack and Margaret operated the lumberyard in Diagonal from 1939 to 1955 and in Albany, MO from 1955 to 1973. She retired with Jack to Cape Coral, FL where they made many new friends and played many rounds of golf. They moved back to Mount Ayr in April 1991. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr.
One of Margaret's true loves was architectural drawing. She drew hundreds of Veterans Housing Administration house plans and other farm buildings built by the Dalbey Lumber Company.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother John Beard, husband Jack Dalbey, and son-in-law John Taylor.
