Funeral Services for Lydia K. Reynolds, age 91, who died at Mercy Hospital in Corning, on Monday, November 2, 1998, were held at the Ritchie Funeral Home on Thursday, November 5, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Dena Woldruff officiating. Burial was at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.
Lydia DeBose Reynolds was born to Achilles and Sarah Coe Key on March 2, 1907 on a farm northeast of Sharpsburg. She was a life-long
area resident growing up and attending school until 1922. She then moved to Omaha where she was employed at various restaurants and worked in the candy department at Brandise. Later she owned and operated a cafe and donut shop.
In 1945 she moved to Lenox where she owned and operated a dress shop known as "Lydia's" for several years.
On May 16, 1950 she was united in marriage to Russell Reynolds. The couple lived in Lenox until 1960 when they moved to Clarinda where they were both employed by the State Mental Hospital. They were both members of the Clarinda Christian Church. In 1969, after Russell's death, Lydia moved back to Lenox where she lived the remainder of her life. Lydia was an avid bingo player. She usually played six to seven nights a week, often traveling the "bingo circuit" to do so. She was known as a generous person who loved to help
other people, especially her family. Some of the other things Lydia enjoyed where her lawn ornaments, sewing, embroidery and carpentry work.
Survivors include three sisters, Hattie Tackett Fuller of Clarinda; and Eunice Eller and Mary Terry, both of Lenox; and a step-daughter, Rose Marie Campbell and husband Larry of Gainsville, Missouri; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell; her parents, Achilles and Sarah; four sisters; three brothers; three half-sisters; six half brother and two step sons.
