OBITUARY ~ MINERVA GLADDIS POLLOCK

Minerva GLADDIS, eldest child of Robert and Anna GLADDIS, was born in southern Illinois, February 25, 1844. Her parents soon moved to Olena, Henderson county, Illinois, where their daughter grew to womanhood. This community was composed largerly of United Presbyterians who had in early days established and who maintained a vigourous church at this point. He parents were active members of the Olena congregation and she grew up devoted to its service and steadfast in her Christian faith. Upon her removal to Ringgold county she transferred her membership to the Mount Ayr congregation and for many years attended the stated services as much as much as circumstances would permit. Always her interest and financial support could be counted on for all good causes. She never doubted or wavered in her faith and her boys were guided in childhood and her boys were guided in childhood as only the best of Christian mothers can teach.

Mrs. POLLOCK was a lover of learning and an active reader all her life. In girlhood she attended the old Burlington Academy at Burlington, Iowa. During the Civil war she was a school teacher. Being a strong character, she held firm but intelligent opinions on all interest in the great war and its underlying causes.

On March 10, 1869 she was married to William POLLOCK at Olena, Ill., and at once moved to Moulint, Iowa. Two years later the family came to Liberty township, Ringgold county, Iowa, establishing the home which she occupied for 48 years until her death January 22, 1919, aged 74 years, ten months and twenty-seven days.

Mrs. POLLOCK was the mother of four sons, who all survive her. Her husband died January 6, 1906, but there are three sisters and one brother still living and she has twelve grandchildren.

The funeral was from her home and conducted by her pastor, Rev. Robert L. WELCH. Interment was made in Rose Hill Cemetery.
