OBITUARY - Dr. J. A. McINTOSH

Dr. J. A. McINTOSH, son of William and Minnie LUKE McINTOSH, was born October 24, 1900, in Keosauqua, and departed this life early the morning of Thursday, July 17, 1986 at Van Buen County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at the age of 85.

He graduated from Keosauqua High School and Des Moines Still College of Osteopathy. During World War I he served with the United States Army and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Battle of the Argonne Forest in France.

On May 31, 1924, he married Edith DUFFIELD in Des Moines. For thirty years they made their home in Tingley, where "Doc" served the community as a general practitioner of osteophathic medicine. Following retirement in 1956, he and Edith moved back to the DUFFIELD family farm near Keosauqua where they have since resided.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife; their son, James and his wife, Mary Sue of Tingley; a grandson William, an optometry student in Oregon and his wife, Tracey; a sister, Margaret Helen GRAY of Keosauqua; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Five brothers, including one in infancy, and Leonard, Robley, Dr. Frank and Horrell, as well as a sister, Lola MARTIN, preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Keosauqua Congregational Church and Beer-Barker Post No. 113, American Legion, Keosauqua.

A memorial service was held Sunday, July 20, 1986, at 2 p.m. in the Keosauqua Congregational Church, with Rev. Arthur ALLEN officiating. Military honors were provided by Beer-Barker Post, American Legion. Private interment of the cremated remains will be in Pittsburg Cemetery. A memorial was established for his church. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
