OBITUARY ~ CLYDE LESAN

Clyde LESAN, the eldest of seven children of Burritt N. and Mary McCLAREN LESAN, was born in Ringgold county on June 17, 1886, and passed away on June 20, 1960, three days after his seventy-fourth birthday anniversary.

Mr. LESAN spent all of his life in Ringgold county, except for a few years when, as a boy, he and his family lived in Creston.

He was married to Jessie M. FULLERTON on August 23, 1912, and to this union was born one daughter, Regina Sue (Mrs. Eldon JACKSON), who lives in Pasadena, Calif.

Mr. LESAN was one of Mount Ayr's oldest and most respected businessmen. His long and successful career began on March 1, 1910, when he and N. E. CRECELIUS opened a real estate partnership business. One year later he joined F. E. SHELDON and H. H. TEDFORD as a business partner, and became a member and the manager of the F. E. SHELDON and Company firm on September 1, 1915. Approximately twenty-two years later, on April 1, 1937, he and his associates organized the Clyde LESAN Company, which specialized in real estate, abstracts, insurance and farm loans. During those years he served also as a stockholder and director of the Mount Ayr, Kellerton and Benton banks. He retired on April 1, 1960, after having completed over fifty years of business in Mount Ayr.

He was always one of the first of Mount Ayr's citizens to offer his services and to devote his time and efforts to activities designed to improve our community, our schools, and our churches. Besides his business affiliations, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Mount Ayr Golf and Coungry Club. He was a past member of the Iowa Good Roads Association Commission, chairman of the Ringgold County Hospital's first board of trustees, and, at the time of his death, a member of the board of trustees of the Mount Ayr Public Library.

In addition to his concern for the welfare of the community, probably the characteristic for which Mr. LESAN was best known, was his love for his family. Their problems were his problems; their success and happiness were his greatest joys.

He leaves to mourn his devoted wife and daughter; a son-in-law; one granddaughter, Judith Ann (Mrs. John FRANCO), of Temple City, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Frank BLANCHARD, of Albion, Mrs. Madge RAMSEY, of Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. George VANCE, of Mount Ayr, and Mrs. Keith PRUGH, of Des Moines; two brothers, Glenn LESAN, of Mount Ayr, and Hugh LESAN, of Kellerton; ten nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the First Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. Howard WAKELIN.

Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
