OBITUARY ~ MARIE IDA SIMPSON

Marie Ida SIMPSON was the daughter of William and Fannie HEBENER SIMPSON, longtime citizens and pioneer business people of the Mount Ayr community. She was born Nov. 5, 1900 at the family home and died at the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr on Feb. 1, 1982 at the age of 81 years, two months and 26 days.

Marie attended the Mount Ayr public school and graduated with the class of 1919. Following her graduation she helped her father in the family store and later went to the University of Iowa for additional education.

For a while Marie lived in Cincinnati, Ohio where she sold insurance. Later she moved to California and a home was established there. She returned to Mount Ayr to assist her mother with business interests after her father's death. Marie and her mother traveled extensively and often spent winters in Florida and California.

Marie was a 68-year member of the Mount Ayr United Methodist church and was an active attendant until a few years ago. She became a member of the C.K. Chapter of the Mount Ayr P.E.O. Sisterhood in 1920. She transferred her membership to the JD Chapter in California when living there and has continued as a non-resident member. She is also a 50-year member of the Grand Chapter of Iowa Order of the Eastern Star.

Her parents have preceded her in death, as did a brother, Charles. Marie is survived by several cousins.

Rev. Lynn POTTER conducted funeral services at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1982 at Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr. Music was by Mr. and Mrs. Mike GREENE. Casketbearers were Dean FROST, Jack MOORE, Gary MYERS, Jim POTTORFF, Daryl HOLDEN and Earl WHEELEN. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr.
