OBITUARY ~ MILDRED LOUISE (MORSS) LAYTON SHERRY

Mildred Louise MORSS, daughter of Robert F. (Bert) and Gussie RYAN MORSS, was born on a farm one mile west of Ellston, Iowa, on April 24, 1917, and passed away at Mackey, Idaho, on Aug. 20, 1982. At the age of 9 years, Mildred and moved with her parents and two sisters to a farm three miles southeast of Delphos, seven miles southwest of Mount Ayr. Here she attended Crown Point rural school and the Delphos and Mount Ayr high schools, graduating from the Mount Ayr high school with the class of 1934.

On Sept. 18, 1935, she was united in marriage with Daryl O. LAYTON in St. Joseph, Mo. To this union were born two sons, Robert William and Richard Alan. The family then lived in Ringgold County for the next several years. During WWII Mildred lived in Napa, Calif., where she was employed. Later she worked for several years as a telephone operator.

On Nov. 18, 1948, Mildred was married to Floyd SHERRY, Jr., at Salmon, Idaho, and they made their home in Mackay, Idaho up to the time of her death.

Mildred accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized on Feb. 6, 1934, united with the Methodist Church in Mount Ayr, Iowa. In September, 1981, she united with St. Barbaras Catholic Church in Mackay, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Robert LAYTON, who passed away on Dec. 13, 1981.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband Floyd; one son, Richard LAYTON of Pocatello, idaho; two sisters, Myrna SEATON of Austin, Texas, and Marie KIMBALL of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren, John and Alan LAYTON, now in the military service, Todd and Kevin LAYTON of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Renee, Regina and Rodney LAYTON of Pocatello, Idaho; two nephews, Gary and Paul KIMBALL, both of Des Moines, Iowa; and two nieces, Sue MAY of Des Moines and Camille SEATON of Austin, Texas.

Funeral services were conducted by the Reverend Father Manuel GOMES at St. Barbaras Catholic Church in Mackay, Idaho, on Monday, Aug. 23, 1982, at 10:30 a.m. with interment in Mt. McCaleb Cemetery at Mckay. Casketbearers were Richard LAYTON, Rodney LAYTON, Todd LAYTON, Steve BOLES, Clinton WHITNEY and Mike MARINAC.
