OBITUARY - LEONA ESTEL (GRAVES) SHAUGHNESSY

Leona Estel GRAVES, daughter of Salatheil and Martha GRAVES, was born February 29, 1892, in Matkins, Mo., and passed away April 30, 1982, at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr. She had lived at the home since February 1973.

On January 31, 1914, she was united in marriage with Clifford SHAUGHNESSY at Bethany, Mo. After living in Lamoni for a few months, they moved to Ringgold County, Iowa, where her lifetime was spent. She was the mother of three children, Loueva (Mrs. Kenneth McGEHEE), Oy Lucille SICKELS, who preceded her in death on July 19, 199971, and Clifford, Jr., who died in infancy.

She was a loving and hospitable wife, mother and grandmother. Sh eenjoyed her family and especially loved having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her home. She enjoyed handwork - sewing, quilting and crocheting - which she continued until she was in her eighties. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Matkins, Mo.

She leaves to mourn her departure her daughter, Loueva, and husband, Kenneth McGEHEE; a son-in-law, Duane SICKELS; her grandson, Max "Ike" McGEHEE, and wife, Mari; two great-grandchildren,Mitzi and Mike McGEHEE, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Clifford; her daughter, Oy Lucille, and grandson, Ted McGEHEE.

God saw the road was growing rough
The hills were hard to climb
He gently closed her loving eyes
And whispered peace be thine.
Her weary days of pain are through
Her restless nights are past.
Her patient worn-out fram
Has found sweet rest at last.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, May 2, at Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, conducted by Pastor Doris KINTON. Mrs. Jim JONES and Mrs. Robert FISHER sang, accompanied at the organ by Mike GREENE. Casketbearers were Raymond WALTER, Earl SCHARDEIN, Joe THOMPSON, John DENHART, Bill CRAWFORD and Max BUCK. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
