OBITUARY ~ EMMA MAUDE (OUDERKIRK) SANDERS

Emma Maude, eldest daughter of John P. and Mary Ann LEPLEY OUDERKIRK, was born November 27, 1880, on a farm near Lenox, Iowa, and passed away March 5, 1971, in the Ringgold County hospital in Mount Ayr, at the age of 90 years, three months, and six days. She was the last member of a family of six.

She grew to womanhood in the Sharpsburg neighborhood and taught in the Ringgold county schools until her marriage to Elmer SANDERS of Redding on December 30, 1908. One daughter, Mary, was born of this union. Except for 20 years spent in western Wshington State, they had made their home in the Redding vicinity. Mr. SANDERS passed away in 1962.

In 1956, she united with the Methodist Church at Middle Fork, where she remained a faithful member until her death. During her 18 months of illness, she had resided in the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr. She always had a pleasant greeting and smile for all whom she met.

Those who survive are her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence WAUGH of Redding; three grandsons, David WAUGH, of St. Paul, Minn., Richard WAUGH, of Ankeny, and Gerald WAUGH, who is with the armed forces in San Antonio, Texas, and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 7 from the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, conducted by the Rev. Clarence H. LANDIS. Mrs. Clarence LANDIS, vocalist, was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Bernice LYNCH. Casketbearers were Elton WAUGH, Howard PARKER, Merle JAMES, Sam TAYLOR, Amon HUNT and Larry DANNER. Burial was in the Middle Fork Cemetery.
