OBITUARY ~ VIVIAN L. (HALEY) MATTHEWS
December 31, 1922 ~ February 7, 2011

Vivian L. MATTHEWS, 88, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 12:25 PM at the Fort Health Center.

She was born on December 31, 1922 in Maloy, Iowa to Otto W. and Nettie O. LAMB HALEY. On September 23, 1939 she married Trueman MATTHEWS in Fort Madison; he passed away on February 25, 2009.

Vivian was a chef at the Fort Madison Country Club for five years, she then was a job placement counselor for the Iowa State Employment Service retiring in 1985 after thirty five years of service. She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ where she was the former church secretary and also served as a diaconate.

Vivian was an extremely talented baker and enjoyed doing needlework. She was a volunteer for the FMCH Auxiliary and also received the Iowa Governor's Volunteerism Award.

Survivors include one son, William (Sandra) MATTHEWS of Chocowinity, NC; three daughters, Dolores "Jean" (Ken) HOFFMEISTER of Fort Madison, Trudy (Raymond) HESSE of Overland Park, KS and Nettie (Ken) CANNON of Coralville, IA; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, one sister and one grandson in infancy.

The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. John SIMPSON officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM. Burial will be in Soldiers' Circle, Oakland Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ.
