OBITUARY - REV. NORMAN REGINALD NOBLE
Norman Reginald NOBLE, son of Van and (Levice SMITH) NOBLE, was born Decemer 19, 1907 on a farm near Caledonia, Iowa and departed this life October 3, 1996.
He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Caledonia and attended the rural schools of Caledonia and Red Brush. In 1991 the family moved to Barnes County, North Dakota and after three years returned to the Caledonia farm.
On November 22, 1927 he was nited in marriage to Edna HARRINGTON of Lamoni, Iowa, and of this union six children were born: Reginald, Rollin, Gary, Gerald, Derald and Norma, who lived a short time.
In the spring of 1928 Norman and Edna established their first home in southern Riley Township. Here in this surrounding they enjoyred many fine neighbors and their first children were born and attended Lee School.
In the spring of 1940 the family moved to Poe and Lotts Creek communities where they resided the next 48 years and where the other children were born and attended Caledonia School.
Norman and Edna were privileged to join with their family in celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in 1987.
Norman recieved Christ as Savior under the preaching of the late Emerson McANNICH, in the Caledonia Church, and was baptized in a country pond with others.
His chosen career in life was farming and the ministry. In the month of March, 1953, he was granted a license to preach by the Grand River Baptist Church and supplied for that church one year. In the spring of 1954 he was given permission to open the Mount Zion Methodist Church, of which he supplied for five years. In the fall of 1959 he accepted the call to pastor the Delphos Baptist Church and was later ordained in 1964 by a group of Southern Baptist Ministers and churches and continued preaching there eleven years.
In 1970 he received a call to pastor the Immanuel Baptist Church at Bethany, Missouri and pastored that church three years. While in Bethany he began a mission service at the Crestview Home and continued that service for 19 years each Friday. His church membership remains in the Immanuel Church.
Norman loved serving the Lord and farming and was very grateful that he was able to do both. Before Edna's health failed, Norman and Edna made a wonderful calling team. They spent endless hours calling on friends, neighbors, church members, and their families, offering what ever might be needed, may it be just a visit from "old neighbors", having prayer for those in the hospital and nursing homes, comforting those who had lost a loved one or checking on the kids and the grandchildren.
The love he had for farming and the farming community showed. He served on election boards, the school board and was a cemetery trustee. He always had some good stories about the good old days when neighbors and families would get together and make their own fun. Sometimes when recalling some of the incidents Norman would be laughing so hard he could hardly finish the story.
Some of Norman's hobbies were hunting, woodworking and music, stating "My love for music seemed as though it should've been my career." Seeing the beautiful furniture that he has made over the years for their home, one would say he could've had another career in woodworking.
But his love for the ministry and caring for his cattle kept him active up until the spring of 1996. Following his illness and stay in the hospital the Lord has taken him home.
Before Norman left this world for a better place, he informed family members that he had his funeral wishes written down. At the bottom of the instructions he had written, "Please do not mourn for me -- for my life has been so full and complete." N.N.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife Edna; son Reginald; daughter Norma; prents; two brothers; Keith and Don, Kellerton, Iowa; three sisters; Mary Patience NOBLE, Wimbledon, North Dakota, Leah C. NOBLE, Kellerton, Iowa and Marjorie LAMB, Escondido, California; two brothers-in-law; Irvin HARRINGTON of Des Moines and Everett HARRINGTON of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Louise HARRINGTON of Leon and Loraine HARRINGTON of Des Moines.
Those left to cherish his memory are Rollin and wife Joan of Branson, Missouri, Gary and wife Velda of Lamonia, Iowa, Gerald and wife Glenda of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Derald and wife Beverly of Mount Ayr, Iowa; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Fred and Helen HARRINGTON of Montezuma, Iowa and Mildred HARRINGTON of Tucson, Arizona and Emmett LAMB of Washington State; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 5, 1996 at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Officiating was Rev. Jack MERRITT. Music was provided by Mrs. Keith SACKETT and Mrs. Francis WILLIS. Casketbearers included Jerry NOBLE, David NOBLE, Shane NOBLE, Carl SPIDLE, Donald NOBLE and Kevin ANDREWS.
Honorary pallbearers were Lyle GILLILAND, True BOYER, Dick BARNES, Junior BOYER, Barton SHIELDS, Jerry SHIELDS and Harold STEPHENS.
Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
