OBITUARY - ERNEST F. BURGMAIER

Ernest F. BURGMAIER, 84, of Winterset, formerly of the Zion area, died May 11, 2004, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 14, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., Creston. Tracy EDWARDS will officiate the service. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery at Shannon City. Open visitation will be after 1 p.m. Thursday with family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial will be established in his name.

BURGMAIER, son of Lizzie (HOFFMAN) and Karl "Charley" BURGMAIER, was born Oct. 30, 1919, near Shannon City. He was raised on a farm south of Shannon City and attended country school in Ringgold County, then Shannon City High School. On May 1, 1941, he married Vivian ANDERSON. He farmed in the Shannon City, Creston and Zion communities.

On May 28, 1983, he married Margaret (KUNTZ) DRAKE in Winterset, where they made their home. He was a member of the Covered Bridges Cruisers Motorcycle Club and Shannon City Breakfast Club.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret BURGMAIER of Winterset; four sons, Lonnie (wife Diane) BURGMAIER, Gayle (wife Beth) BURGMAIER and Glenn "Tony" BURGMAIER, all of Creston, and Don BURGMAIER of Des Moines; a daughter, Bonnie OLSON of Rio, Wis.; one stepson, Mike DRAKE of Winterset; two stepdaughters, Mary Jo (husband Dr. Bob) ADAMS of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Deb (husband Gary) TITTLE of Lees Summit, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, Jeromy (wife Laurel) BURGMAIER, Jason BURGMAIER, Amy BURGMAIER, Lori (husband Troy) PFLUGHAUPT, Rachel and Veronica NIXON, Eric, Mark, Kari and Kristin OLSON, Dakota and Makayla BURGMAIER; four step-grandchildren, several step-great grandchildren and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife in 1968, grandson Brian BURGMAIER at age 2, son-in-law Roger OLSON, twin sisters Lela CAMPBELL and Leta PHILO, and two brothers, Carl, at age seven, and Herman BURGMAIER.
