OBITUARY - HOWARD TOWNSEND

Howard TOWNSEND, 88, of Corning died August 16, 2006, at Corning Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 19, at Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service, 701 Seventh St., Corning. The Rev. Jeff HONTZ and the Rev. Lester MOORE will officiate the service. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Corning with military honors by Ourcq Post #117. Open visitation will be 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association. Howard TOWNSEND, son of Carrie (SCHOW) and Andrew Jackson TOWNSEND, was born Oct. 30, 1917, in St. Paul, Neb. On May 22, 1945, Howard married Faye MARRS in Tingley. He served in the U.S. Air Force Jan. 6, 1942 to June 1945.

At age 21, Howard worked for Howard County operating heavy road equipment in St. Paul, Neb. He began farming near Mount Ayr in 1946 and purchased a farm east of Corning in 1956. He retired in 1984 and moved to Corning. He was a lifetime church member and member of Corning American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Faye TOWNSEND of Corning; two children, Rex (wife Judy) TOWNSEND of Corning and Carmen (husband Larry) YOUNG of Story City; two brothers, Darold (wife Ellamae) TOWNSEND and Warren (wife Margie) TOWNSEND, all of St. Paul, Neb.; two sisters-in-law, Betty FENN of Carson and Naomi MARRS of Lincoln, Neb.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, sister Evelyn RASMUSSEN and brother Marvin TOWNSEND.
