The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1922

DEATH of SUSIE G. TENNANT.

Sorrow came to the hearts of the people of the community Saturday when a message was received announcing that Susie G. TENNANT, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. R. J. TENNANT of Indianola, had passed away following an operation performed in a hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Miss TENNANT was a niece of G[eorge]. A. TENNANT, of this city, and the family formerly resided here. The body reached Mount Ayr Sunday and the funeral was held yesterday forenoon at eleven o'clock from the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Jay KIRKENDALL, and Rev. W. B. THOMPSON of Davis City. The interment was in the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery, beside the graves of two other children of Rev. and Mrs. TENNANT.

Susanna Gouldin TENNANT was born April 21, 1886, at Casey, Iowa, and died at Grace hospital, Kansas City, Mo., September 2, 1922, aged thirty-six years, four months and eleven days.

She began her christian experience and life in childhood, which were enriched in later years. She held her church membership in the first Methodist church, Ottumwa, Iowa. Always physically frail, she took her place in the world performing her duties conscientiously.

She took a normal course at Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa, afterwards graduating in primary work from the State Teachers' College at Cedar Falls, Iowa. While receiving her training she taught several rural schools, one year at Alta Vista, Iowa, and one year in the primary department at Ellston, Iowa. After graduating she taught one year at Grinnell, Iowa, and six years at Ottumwa, Iowa, and had contracted for the seventh year.

Susie was faithful in her friendships, best loved by those who knew her best, and forgetful of self in her service for others. In her last sickness she was patient and thoughtful of others to the end. She acknowledged her Lord by returning to him a tenth of her income. There is a spirit of thankfulness in the hearts of her parents that she has been loaned to them so long, and her memory will ever remain as a benediction in the home.

NOTE: Susie's grandmother Christina (TEFLER) TENNANT was born in 1843 in Scotland and died at Mount Ayr on June 17, 1930 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
