OBITUARY.

Died, Nov. 17, 1889, Silas TEDROW, aged 62 years, 8 months, 26 days.

Mr. TEDROW was born in Somerset county, Penn., Feb. 22, 1827. When eleven years of age he went with his parents to Athen county, Ohio. He was married Oct. 15, 1846, and in the fall of '54, with his wife and three children, came to Iowa, wintering in Jones county. May 10, '55, he entered 120 acres of land in Athens township, Ringgold county, and commenced work on his present home. It was eighty miles to mill, salt was seven cents per pound, Mt. Ayr was unknown. Yet amid the adverse circumstances he commenced, and by industry and ecomony added to his first purchase until he had nearly 500 acres of land, one among the best farms in the county. He leaves a wife, also a large family of children who are respected citizens of the county, to mourn their loss.

During his last illness his sufferings were great, but he bore it all as from the hand of God, spending much time in prayer. He met death as a welcom guest, as one who was fully prepared to go.

His brother Joseph L. TEDROW, from Hastings, Neb., was with him during the last week of his illness, which was a real comfort to him, also A. H. GEIST and wife; cousins from the north part of the county.

His funeral was conducted by M. A. EVANS at his residence, where a large assembly of friends and neighbors gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to this their friend and brother. His remains were buried in the family cemetery on the farm [Tedrow Cemetery near Kellerton, Ringgold County, Iowa].
