OBITUARY - CLYDE E. TAYLOR

Clyde E. TAYLOR, 86, of Mount Ayr, formerly of King City, Mo., died January. 9, 2005, at Mount Ayr Health Care Center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, at Gibson Funeral Home, 101 Prospect St., King City, Mo. Burial will be in King City Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 132 of King City, Mo. The family will receive friends noon to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Hands of Hope Hospice, in care of Gibson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 552, King City, MO 64463.

Mr. TAYLOR, son of Frank and Myrle TAYLOR, was born September 10, 1918, in King City, Mo. He resided most of his life in the King City area and graduated from King City High School in 1936. He was in the seed business, operating the King City elevator and Taylor Feed Store, both in King City, Mo. He later worked for Sur-Gro Plant Food of Plattburg, Mo. He married Marion SALISBURY and later divorced. In 1983, he married Verla Dean VARNER at Lake Viking, Gallatin, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, 50-year member of Ancient Craft Lodge No. 377 and American Legion Post No. 132, all of King City, Mo., and while living in Lake Viking, Mo., he attended the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Verla TAYLOR of Mount Ayr; two sons, Barry TAYLOR of Kansas City, Mo., and Terry TAYLOR of Riverside, Calif.; three grandchildren, Doug TAYLOR, Sherry D. KELLER and Angie McCOLLUM, all of St. Joseph, Mo.; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill TAYLOR of St. Joseph, Mo., and Gary TAYLOR of King City, Mo.; two step-children, Brad VARNER of Oak Grove, Mo., and Jan SLAYBAUGH of Independence, Mo.; and 10 step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, brother Red TAYLOR and sister Reva Ann "Peg" WHITE.
