RUSSELL JAMES SWEENEY

Russell James SWEENEY was born Oct. 18, 1924 near Caledonia, IA. His parents were Adeline Francis (SCOTT) and James Augustus SWEENEY. Russell departed this life on Mar. 17, 2003 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, IA.

He was married to Marilyn Marjorie BUTLER on Jun. 3, 1949 at Bedford, IA. They enjoyed 30 years together before she passed away in 1979.

His entire life was spent in the Mount Ayr area. He was an auto mechanic most of his life. He and his brother-in-law operated the Sweeney-Butler Repair Shop.

Russell was an avid sportsman. He was happiest when he could be in the outdoors, fishing, hunting and trapping with his many friends who shared the love of the outdoors with him.

He is survived by one sister, Velma CALDWELL of Mount Ayr; and two brothers-in-law.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie, his sisters Mamie CALHOUN, Ruby MILLS, Hazel SPENCER, and Nina GERMAN; two infant siblings and his special friend Marcell BRINER.

Funeral services were held at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa on March 30, 2003.

Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, IA.
