JAMES A. SWEENEY

James A. SWEENEY, youngest son of James and Mary SWEENEY was born March 3, 1887 at Hatfield, MO., and died March 17, 1953 at his home in Mount Ayr, IA. at the age of 66 years, 14 days.

On May 22, 1905, he was united in marriage with Adeline F. SCOTT. They established a home on a farm near Allendale, MO., and later moved to their present home in Mount Ayr, IA.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, two sons, Russell of Mount Ayr, Cleo of Claremont, SD.; five daughters, Nina GERMAN and Velma CALDWELL of Mount Ayr, Hazel SPENCER of Sioux City, Mamie CALHOUN of Corvallis, OR and Ruby MILLS of Wayne, Michigan; three sisters, Lou McLEISH, May CAMPBELL and Betsy ROSE; three half-sisters; five half-brothers; ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his sons, William Floyd and Ervin, an infant son and daughter, two brothers and three half-brothers.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 21, at two o'clock from the Rhodes Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, conducted by Rev. George C. PENNINGTON, pastor of the Methodist Church. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, IA.

NOTE: Staff Sergeant William F. SWEENEY served with the U.S. Army, 377th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division during World War II. He was killed in action on Thursday, November 9, 1944 and interred in Plot J, Row 31, Grave 36 at Lorraine American Cemetery, St. Avold (Moselle), France. S SG William F. SWEENEY was awarded the Purple Heart.
