OBITUARY.

[Dr. Peter McMilliam] P. M. SWARTWOOD was born June 1st, 1816, in Newfield, Tompkins county, NY., and died at his residence in Ringgold county, Iowa, January 4th, 1889, after a brief illness of five days, brought on by a severe cold. He joined the M. E. church at the age of twenty, and has ever been a worthy member of the same. He graduated in the medical course of the Fairfield College, N.Y., four years later, and spent most of his life in the practice of medicine. He was married to S. L. McALLASTER, of Newfield, July 2d, 1839, whose death occurred May 20th, 1888. Five children were the result of this union; two are still living. They removed from New York to Monmouth, Illinois, in 1861, and from thence to Ringgold county, Iowa, where he passed to his reward from a long life spent in the love and fear of God. His funeral sermon was preached on January 6th, 1889, by the writer. J. T. HUGHES.

NOTE: Dr. Peter McMilliam SWARTWOOD's birth year was engraved as 1815 on his gravestone. Sarah Louisa (McALLASTER) SWARTWOOD, Peter's wife, was born in April 1819, and died on May 20, 1888 at the age of 68 years and 11 months. Dr. Peter and Sarah SWARTWOOD were interred at Bethel Cemetery near Diagonal, Ringgold County, Iowa. Of Dr. Peter McMilliam and Sarah Louisa (McALLASTER) SWARTWOOD's children:
Elvira L. SWARTWOOD was born on March 14, 1843, and died January 10, 1893; Alonzo D. SWARTWOOD was born January 22, 1845, and died November 23, 1906, the husband of Ida who was born April 25, 1854 and died August 20, 1918. All interments were at Bethel Cemetery near Diagonal, Ringgold County, Iowa. Luella M. SWARTWOOD was also a daughter.
