OBITUARY - RACHEL REBECCA WORTHINGTON STRALEY

Rachel Rebecca WORTHINGTON STRALEY died at home on Thursday, April 6. She was born on November 9, 1916, in Maloy, Iowa, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa. She worked as a customer service representative for the telephone company in Des Moines where she met Walter STRALEY, whom she married in 1938. During their 62 years of marriage the STRALEYS moved fourteen times, living at various times in Iowa, Northern California, Southern California, New Jersey, New York City, Moline, Illinois, and Seattle. They settled in Seattle in 1975.

Mr. STRALEY died in 1999.

Rachel STRALEY was active in civic and Democratic party activities. She served on the Board of the Salvation Army in Seattle and supported YouthCare activities, where there is a scholarship fund in her name. She joined the peace delegation to Tashkent in the former Soviet Union in 1983. She was an avid reader and lover of literature and politics.

She was a beloved wife and mother and will be much missed by her children: Mary WORTHINGTON, of Santa Monica, CA; John STRALEY, of Sitka, Alaska; and Hugh STRALEY, Jane SKRIVAN, and Martha STRALEY, all of Seattle. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15 in the Arboretum Visitor Center meeting room . In lieu of flowers, please send donations to YouthCare of Seattle, 2500 N.E. 54th St., Seattle, WA. 98105.
