OBITUARY - ELI R. STRAIGHT.

Eli R. STRAIGHT, sixth son of Urias and Dianna (HAYES) STRAIGHT, was born in Brown county, Ohio, October 4, 1848, and passed away at his home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, February 15, 1931, after a few hours' illness, at the age of 81 years, four months and 11 days. At the age of six years he moved with his parents to Harrison county, Missouri, where he grew to manhood. He went to Henderon (sic) county, Illinois, in the year of 1876. On September 10, 1879, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma DAVIS, at Oquawka, Ill. In the spring of 1882 they moved to Montgomery county, Iowa, where the home was established.

He was converted in 1877, and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church, later transferring his membership to the Methodist Episcopal church, in which church his membership remained until his death. On account of deafness he had not been a regular attendant at the church service and Sunday school for the last few years of his life. He was always intensely interested in all religious work, and was a staunch supporter of prohibition and a firm believer in the eighteenth amendment.

On September 10, 1929, Father and Mother STRAIGHT celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary, all of the children being present except one.

He is survived by his loving wife Emma STRAIGHT, five daughters, Mrs. Mabel CAMPBELL, Emerson; Mrs. Leota TOMPKINS, Miss Nola STRAIGHT, Mrs. Irma POORE and Mrs. Hazel SALTZMAN, all of Mount Ayr; four sons, Roy, of Mount Ayr; Clive of Golden, Colo.; Emory D. and Emmett D. of Highmore, S.D.; all of whom attended the funeral; and four brothers, F. M. of Imogene, H. F. of Gurley, Neb., E. B. of Henderson, Iowa, and G. A. of Red Oak, Iowa. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

The pall bearers were Clint ALLYN, Clarence PALMER, H. C. BOYLES, Floyd STUART, Joe MOSIER and P. J. McGRATH.
