The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1931

DEATH of THOMAS STEELE.

Ringgold county friends received with sorrow Saturday the announcement of the death of Thomas STEELE, 23 years of age, who died at the hospital in Cedar Falls. Thomas was popular and well-liked by his associates, both in Ringgold county and Cedar Falls, where he was enrolled as a freshman at the Iowa State Teachers College.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Mount Ayr Monday afternoon, at 2:30, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. J. HAMILTON, and interment made in Rose Hill cemetery. Roommates and classmates came from Cedar Falls and served as pall bearers.

The following obituary was read at the funeral:

Thomas Bowen STEELE, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. STEELE, was born in Maloy, Iowa, September 6, 1907, and spent most of his life in that community. He passed away at the hospital in Cedar Falls on Saturday, February 28, 1931, at 1:20.

He finished his school work in the grades at Maloy and entered high school, but quit after a month's attendance when business interests called him back to the farm, where he worked faithfully for six years. He again entered high school and completed his high school course. At the time of his untimely death he was a freshman at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.

It was discovered about a year ago that he had an affected heart, but apparently suffered no serious effect until last Wednesday, when he suffered the fatal attack.

He professed faith in Christ and united with the Christian church in Maloy when about twelve years of age.

Besides his father and mother, he leaves four sisters - Mrs. Edward SWANSON of Mount Ayr, Mrs. Howard CORNELISON of Benton, Mrs. Lyndel THOMPSON of Des Moines and Marguerite STEELE at home; and one brother, Hugh STEELE of Maloy; four nieces and nephews, Keith and Mildred Maxine SWANSON, Roberta Ann THOMPSON and Mary Jo CORNELISON and many other relatives and friends are left to mourn his death.
