OBITUARY - BETTY J. (SPARKS) STAATS

Betty J. STAATS, 71, of Creston, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Powers Funeral Home jct. of Hwys. 34 & 25 Creston. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mt. Ayr. Rev. Jim EXLEY will officiate. Open visitation will be 2-8:00 P.M. Friday, September 26, 2008 at Powers Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Memorials are to the family. Betty J. STAATS was born August 27, 1937 in Kirksville, Missouri to Luria Edna (DAVIS) and Erie Presley SPARKS. She grew up in Kirksville, Mo. and graduated from Kirksville High School. On September 20, 1958 she was united in marriage to Robert George STAATS in Kellerton, Iowa. They lived in Delphos briefly until 1960, then Red Oak for 5 years, moving to Creston in June 1965. She was a homemaker and worked as the lunch lady at Franklin schools for many years. She was also an avid bowler. Betty was a member of the Salvation Army Church and the Nazarene Church until they closed.

Survivors include her husband Bob STAATS of Creston; two daughters: Jeanne (husband Paul) BARBER of Edgerton, Missouri; Heidi Jo (husband Nick) RUNDE of Creston; one son: Fred (wife Janell) STAATS of Ellston, Iowa; eight brothers: Jim (wife Emma) SPARKS of Ewing, Mo.; Paul (wife Bev) SPARKS of Durham, Mo.; Jerry (wife Rowena) SPARKS of Springfield, Mo.; Wiley (wife Tracy) SPARKS of Maywood, Mo.; Riley “Skip” (wife Sandra) SPARKS of Ewing, Mo.; Larry (wife Janet) SPARKS of Ewing, Mo.; John (wife Penny) SPARKS of Kirksville, Mo.; Lonnie (wife Lena) SPARKS of Ewing, Mo.; four sisters: Barb HOUSTON of Quincy, Ill.; Nancy (husband Ronnie) ATTEBERRY of Ewing, Mo.; Becky (husband Tim) STAATS of Aledo, Tx.; Beverly Mae (husband Richard) SHAHAN of Edina, Mo. and six grandchildren: Colette STAATS; Caley STAATS; Luria STAATS; Daisy STAATS; Grant STAATS; Noah RUNDE.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son George; her twin sister: Bonnie at birth and two brothers: Erie and Billie.
