OBITUARY - MR. JAMES W. SPENCER.

James Whitney SPENCER was born in Ross Township, Greene county, Ohio. He married Malinda Jane FRANKLIN on December 06, 1857, in Tippecanoe county, Indiana. In 1863 they moved to Piatt county, IL. In 1876 they moved to a farm two miles southeast of Delphos, Iowa, in Rice Township, Ringgold county, Iowa. They constructed the farm home from lumber hauled from Bedford and it was still in use in 1992. For many years James was one of Ringgold's respected farmers and a large land holder. Malinda and James were members of the Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church. James died of cancer February 2, 1907 in their home in Mt Ayr with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery. Malinda and James had nine children: six sons and three daughters with two of the sons dying in infancy.

NOTE: Malinda Jane (FRANKLIN) SPENCER was born in Tippecanoe County, Indiana on May 26, 1838, and died at Humeston, Iowa on January 22, 1922. She was interred beside her husband at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa.
