OBITUARY - MRS. BERT SLAUGHTER

It was in the quiet early morning hour of a promising beautiful first day of May while sleeping, the Lord saw fit to take back home the soul of Ruby (SHOOTS) SLAUGHTER, who had been given life on August 6, 1896 to John and Emma (BARTH) SHOOTS at Andover, Mo. The youngest of five children, she grew to womanhood in and around the Andover community and attended school there.

On February 17, 1915, she was united in marriage to Bert SLAUGHTER at Mount Ayr, Iowa, and with the exception of a short time spent in Ringgold and Decatur County, Iowa, they lived in Harrison County, MO.

These were very happy years for Bert and Ruby, as they welcomed into their home two daughters and two sons: Marie, Ruth, Ronald and Rogene. This happiness was marred on June 15, 1945, by the tragic death of their second daughter, Ruth (SLAUGHTER) SHEETS. On December 3, 1958, occurred the untimely death of the husband and father at their farm home northwest of Eagleville, leaving this mother alone. She continued to live at this farm home alone until two weeks ago, when she was taken to the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Andy SHEETS.

Ruby was always quiet and a home-loving wife and mother, who made her home the center of her interest. She enjoyed her garden, raising her chickens, and the many happy times her children and grandchildren visiting in this home.

She leaves to mourn her departure, one daughter, Marie (Mrs. Andy SHEETS), Blythedale; two sons, Ronald and Rogene of Eagleville; one sister, Blanche (Mrs. Chas. CROISSANT), Atlantic, Iowa, and seven granddaughters. Besides the husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Samuel Melbert and Roe Kelly SHEETS, and one great-grandson, Ricky Joe CAMPBELL, and one brother, Void SHOOTS, who passed away in November, 1962.

Services were held at the Methodist church at Eagleville at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, May 3, the Rev. Loyd COUCH officiating. Mrs. Gerald WILSON and Mrs. Larry SMITH, accompanied by Mrs. Hugh Van HOOZER, sang "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "Sweet Bye and Bye." Burial was at the Andover cemetery, with the Boggess mortuary in charge.
