OBITUARY - ROENA MAY SEXTON

Services for Roena May SEXTON, 77, were held July 11, 1988 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home officiated by Carl CUMMINGS and Rev. Carl HOLDSWORTH. Burial was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity. Mrs. SEXTON died July 8, 1988 at her home in Bedford.

Roena May SEXTON, daughter of Isaac Newton SAYLER and Lucy Angeline (DeWEESE), was born on a farm north of Benton in Ringgold County, Iowa, September 6, 1910. She lived most of her life in Taylor County and attended school in Conway.

On June 1, 1936, she was married to Elmo E. BROWN of Des Moines, Ia. One son, Richard E., was born to this union prior to her husband’s death in 1939.

On September 29, 1948, she married Lewis Virgil SEXTON of Gravity. To this union a daughter, Linda K., was born.

For many years she was employed at HUNTER’s Grocery in Conway and at several Bedford businesses.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, four brothers, Ralph, Ernest, Lawrence and John; and a sister, Helen SMITH.

Left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter, a stepson Ronald SEXTON of Parsons, Ka.; five grandchildren, Michelle BROWN of Valentine, Ne., James and Amy BROWN of Norfolk, Ne., and Cherona and Suzanne SEXTON; two sisters, Margaret PINE of Diagonal, and Stella BARLOW of Mission, Tx.; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the Gravity Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Royal Neighbors of America.
