OBITUARY.

Mrs. Mary E. NASH, died very suddenly at her home in Mt. Ayr, on Monday, July 7th, 1879, aged 48 years and six months.

Mary E. McCARTY was born in New York State, removed when quite young, with her parents to Michigan. Married in March 1853 to her now bereaved husband, A[aron]. NASH. Made a profession of Religion in 1855, and in the following year united with the Methodist church. Removed with her husband to Jones county, Iowa in 1861, and in 1871 came to Ringgold county, which has since been their home. Mrs. NASH was taken ill January 1st, 1879, since which time she lingered under various forms of diseases, more or less obscure in their nature, and difficult to designate by any special name. At times her sufferings have been great, but through all there was a view of hope of final recovery. On Monday she had been assisting in some little work, and rising up, said she felt as if she would faint, and sinking on the bed near by, after a very few gasping breathings, the wheels of life stood still. As wife, mother, neighbor and church member, she was a pure minded good woman; mild, quiet and unobtrusive in her disposition and manner of life, she enjoyed the esteem and confidence of her most intimate neighbors and friends, and though passing away suddenly without any words expressive of her Christian faith and hope, she leaves the memory of a true faithful religious life, far more reliable and forcible than a few utterances alone could have been.

She died, as sets the morning star
Which goes not down behind the darkened West,
Nor hides amid the tempests of the sky,
But melts away into the light of heaven.

NOTE: Mary E. (McCARTY) NASH was interred at Oak Ridge Cemetery near Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa.
