NOTE: Kenneth T. HOLLAND, husband of Mildred L. (KITSELMAN), was born on March 4, 1910, and died October 9, 1980 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.

Mildred Lee KITSELMAN was born August 30, 1911 in Chariton, Iowa, to Harvey and Bess (FARLEY) KITSELMAN. Her life ended June 6, 2007 at the Guadalupe Valley Nursing Center in Seguin, Texas.

Her parents operated the “Fair Store” in Chariton until 1919, when they moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa, and opened a Fair Store there. John and Ruthe KITSELMAN were her siblings, and she got her nickname “Tut” from John, who said “Tutter” instead of “sister”.

Tut graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1929, and planned to go to nursing school, but she and Kenneth Thomas "Bill" HOLLAND ran away and got married in December of that year. They had two children, Phyllis Lee and John Thomas. Bill worked for his brothers: Arthur at the Mount Ayr Hotel, and Sam "Mutt" at the Holland Café, both businesses in Mount Ayr. In 1938 Bill, Tut and children moved to a farm northeast of Tingley, Iowa, where they farmed until 1940. They then moved to the KNIGHT farm, north of Beaconsfield, then the ONSTOT farm west of Beaconsfield, where they lived until moving to Des Moines, Iowa, in 1952. Bill worked as a printer for the State of Iowa, and Tut was a secretary in the Des Moines Public School system. Because of Bill’s ill health, they moved to Seguin, Texas in 1971, where they lived close to son Tom and daughter-in-law Anne (O’NEAL) HOLLAND.

Tut was a wonderful pianist. She played piano for the Mount Ayr Methodist Church when she was 12 years old, then played for the Beaconsfield Methodist Church when they moved there. She gave piano lessons to many children around Beaconsfield, and played for the many Beaconsfield school programs. She was a member of the 1922 Club and the Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist Church while in Beaconsfield.

Tut was a loving and caring person who involved herself in community volunteer work and was a finalist in the “Volunteer of the Year” award in Seguin. She loved caring for and babysitting children, and also assisted elderly persons, some of them younger than she was. When Bill died in 1980, she stayed in their home until her health failed, moving to the nursing center in 2001, where she was cared for by loving hands.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John, husband Kenneth “Bill” HOLLAND, and grandson Gregory HOLLAND.

She is survived by her daughter Phyllis MANNING and husband Jack of Kellerton, Iowa, and their children, Linda MANNING of Minneapolis, MN, Janet MANNING of Des Moines, IA, Vicki HARRINGTON and husband Mike of Adel, IA, and children Joseph and Katie HARRINGTON; son John Holland and wife Anne of Seguin, Texas and their children: Jennifer GRIFFIS and husband Craig of Raleigh, NC, and children Christopher and Samantha; daughter-in-law Emily HOLLAND of Thibodaux, LA, and children Meghann, Caroline and Stephen; Rebecca HOLLAND of Mingo, Iowa, and her children Ruben and Amy; and Thomas HOLLAND of San Antonio, Texas; her sister Ruthe DORAN of Rio Verde, Arizona; nieces and nephews and many friends.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Beaconsfield United Methodist Church, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Services were held Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m., United Methodist Church of Beaconsfield, Iowa.
