OBITUARY - EVELYNNE ALDENE (HOOD) DUROS

Evelynne Aldene (HOOD) DUROS died December 20, 2007, at the Mt. Ayr Health Care Center. She was born December 14, 1916 to Bessie Mae (NAUMAN) HOOD and Otis HOOD of Arispe in Union County, Iowa.

She was a member of the United Methodist church in Mount Ayr. Evelynne was united in marriage on the 26th of June, 1946 to Nicholas DUROS, in Rock Island, IL. To this union one son was born: Steven Michael DUROS of Raytown, Missouri.

She was a beautician in Mount Ayr for the first part of her adult life after attending beauty school in Des Moines, Iowa. The first time Evelynne and Nick DUROS met was on a bus ride some time before Nick was shipped out of training camp at Camp Dodge, Iowa, to fight in WWII. They were married after the war and opened a grocery store, the West End Market, in Mount Ayr, Iowa and operated that grocery for approximately 25-30 years. During the early 1970’s they owned and operated the Mount Ayr Skating Rink for about 5 years, and later managed the Clinton Motel for a few years prior to retirement in the early 1980‘s. After retirement they enjoyed travel and family activities. Evelynne had many close friendships, enjoyed cards, church and family. She will be greatly missed.

Her husband preceded her in death on 7th of March, 1985. She leaves one son, Steven Micheal DUROS of Raytown, Missouri and a beautiful granddaughter, Mary Renate' Steele DUROS also of Raytown.

Services were held on Monday, December 24, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
