OBITUARY - DEAN EDWIN MULLEN, 60

FINAL RITES HELD HERE JUNE 27

Funeral services for Dean Edwin MULLEN, 60, of Bedford, held June 27 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home, were officiated by Carl CUMMINGS. Mr. Mullen died June 23, 1977 at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Mo. Interment was at Lexington Cemetery, near Bedford.

Dean Edwin MULLEN, son of Al[exander] MULLEN and Clara Duff (GOLTRY) MULLEN, was born in Ringgold County, Iowa, July 31, 1916.

He moved with his parents to a farm west of Bedford when he was a small lad. He grew to maturity in this area and attended the public school and was graduated from Bedford High School.

In 1948 he was united in marriage to Doris GRIFFITH and seven children were born to them.

He engaged in farming for a number of years during which time he served as a substitute rural mail carrier. He had been employed by the Department of Transportation [Iowa State Highway] since 1954.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Christina Kay, who died in infancy, and a brother Merton MULLEN.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Stephen; Sandra and her husband, Stephen LOCK; William; Rebecca and Brenda of Bedford; and Richard and his wife, Valerie, of San Diego, Calif.; granddaughter, Michelle; brothers and sisters: Marjorie WHEELER and her husband Orvis; Robert MULLEN and his wife, Ellen Jean (THOMPSON, of Bedford; Kenneth MULLEN and his wife, Lois, of Arcadia, Calif.; Doris RHUE and her husband, William, of La Canada, Calif.; Jean McQUAID and her husband, Francis, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, other relatives and many friends.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He will be remembered as a kind father and brother and will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
