OBITUARY - DARLENE BERNICE (ANDERSON) HERRINGTON

Darlene Bernice HERRINGTON (90) of Mount Ayr passed away peacefully with her family at her side in Mount Ayr, on June 3rd, 2008.

Darlene was born on March 7th, 1918 to Boyd and Bessie ANDERSON on her grandfather ANDERSON’s farm south of Yarmouth, Iowa. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1936. She married G. Dale HERRINGTON of Diagonal on August 23rd, 1939.

Darlene was an elementary school teacher for 34 years. She start her teaching career in Newburg, Iowa in 1938 and went on to teach in Diagonal and Mount Ayr, Iowa. She retired from the Mount Ayr Community School District in 1981. She was a member of The Mount Ayr United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Chapter CK, the Evening Literature, Today’s Woman, Retired Teachers, and several bridge clubs.

Darlene found joy in reading, sewing, cooking and gathering with friends and neighbors to play a game of cards or discuss a newly read book. What brought her great pleasure was spending time with her family and friends traveling, celebrating or sitting around the kitchen table playing games.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband Dale, parents, sister Wanda Jo (Tom) KEELEY, son-in-law Dick STUCK, sister-in-law Ethelyn HERRINGTON, and brother-in-law Richard Clair HERRINGTON.

Survivors include, a daughter Sandy STUCK, West Des Moines, and two sons, Richard (Becky) HERRINGTON, Austin TX, Phil (Patty) HERRINGTON, Boulder, CO. A sister, Shirley (ANDERSON) SWANSON and her husband Roger of Swedesburg, Iowa; and nine grandchildren: Michael (Sue) STUCK, Scottsdale AZ, Kevin (Najwa) STUCK , Scottsdale AZ. Sheila (Dennis) McCOOL of Geneva, Ill, Jon (Kelly) STUCK, Olathe KS, Emily HERRINGTON, Houston TX, Sarah HERRINGTON, North Shore, Hawaii, Sam HERRINGTON, Austin, TX, Blake HERRINGTON, Boulder, CO, Grant HERRINGTON, Boulder, CO, seven great grandchildren and lots of loving extended family and great friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church, Hospice of Central Iowa, Ringgold County chapter, and the Mount Ayr Public Library.
