OBITUARY - DONELLA MAY (DEIBERT) HARTMAN

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” - Psalms 116:15

Donella May HARTMAN, daughter of Arthur Earl and Anna May (STEPHENS) DEIBERT, was born on March 6, 1922, in Delphos, Iowa, and departed her worldly life on November 19, 2008, at the age of 86.

She received her education in St. Joseph, MO, Kellerton, IA and graduated from Delphos, Iowa with the class of 1940.

On June 15, 1940, Donella was united in marriage to Ivan Claude HARTMAN by a family friend, Rev. H. G. BLOOMFIELD, in Bethany, MO. With the exception of living in Conway, MO for six months, Ringgold County was their home, most of their lives spent in Mount Ayr.

Three children were born to this union; Anna Katherine "Kay"; Donna Rae and Ivan Neil. Later in life, the family was joined by Vietnamese foster brother and sister Tong and Lan TRAN when their family moved to California.

Donella was baptized into the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr on Easter Sunday, March, 1948 by the Rev. Harold REEL. She was a faithful member, serving in capacities of the church, including teaching Sunday school, Chi Rho leader, CWF secretary, afternoon and evening Circle leader, deaconess, and helped with bake sales, dinners and weddings. She was also a Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader and collected for numerous charity organizations. Many people were recipients of the beautifully-decorated sugar cookies she enjoyed baking before arthritis made it too difficult for the tedious detail work.

Her main occupation was being a wife, mother and grandmother until 1975 when she joined the dietary department at Clearview Home, where she worked for 24 years.

Donella and Ivan were privileged to celebrate their Golden wedding anniversary on June 15, 1990.

Preceding her in death were her husband Ivan; parents Earl and Anna DEIBERT; 2 sisters, Beulah Belle DEIBERT and Mildred FOLTZ; 2 brothers, George and Arthur DEIBERT; stepmother, Honor (DAVIS) DEIBERT; a step-sister, Waive JENKINS; and step-brothers, Bill and Marvin DAVIS.

Those who survive to cherish memories are her children; Kay ROTHERT (Ron Davis) of Des Moines, IA, Donna (Jerry) JONES of Nodaway, IA and Neil (Lana) HARTMAN of Mount Ayr. Grandchildren include Travis HARTMAN and Shannon HARTMAN of Mt. Ayr; Darryn DUGAN (Dodie Shafer) of Knoxville, IA; and Chris DUGAN (Jessica SWIETLIK) of Afton, IA; step-brothers, Fred (Margie) DAVIS, Roy (Alma) DAVIS, of Clinton, MO and Harry (Ann) DAVIS of Leavenworth, KS; sisters-in-law include Pat JENNINGS of Cameron, MO, Arda HARTMAN of Bethany, MO, Doris (Paul) HOOK of Independence, MO, Bette WENDELL of Garden City, ID, Virginia HARTMAN of Hobart, IN and Helen McNEW of McCook, NE. Also sharing the loss of “Grammy” will be Elena NAUMOVA and Tanya NAUMOVA; Tong (Tony) and Lam TRAN, and Lan (Teresa) and Robert NGUYEN; several great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

Memorials are to the First Christian Church.
