OBITUARY - RUBY IRENE WORTHINGTON

Ruby Irene WORTHINGTON was born March 31, 1916 at home in Harrison county, Missouri near Hatfield, Missouri to Bert and Lydia (OSBORN) LYNCH. Ruby passed away at her home in Mount Ayr on July 3, 2003.

Ruby went through the eighth grade and then quit to go to work. She was united in marriage to James Francis WORTHINGTON on September 3, 1938 in Maloy, Iowa at the Catholic Church. James and Ruby had 10 children during their marriage, along with James' adopted son, Laverene.

Ruby lived her younger years in Missouri around Hatfield. After her marriage she lived outside of Maloy on the James family farm until 1957 when she moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa.

When Ruby was young, she worked for the SHIPPLY sisters in Grant City, Missouri as a housekeeper for several years. She also worked for her father, keeping house and cooking the meals. She worked for Buck and Don LYNCH as a housekeeper until she married James.

After James' death, Ruby moved to Mount Ayr and worked for Mildred WION as a cook in her nursing home. In 1967 Ruby moved to Des Moines, Iowa and bought a nursing home. She lived there and ran it until 1972 when she moved back to Mount Ayr to retire.

Ruby was a member of the Catholic Church since 1937. She was also the one who had started the soup suppers at the church which they still have to this day. Ruby belonged to the Wheeler Ladies' Club who made quilts for several years.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, James; two daughters, Helen Marie and Judy; a son, Gayland; sisters, Edith MANESS, Ethel BROWN and Maxine WARDEN; brothers, Earl LYNCH, Gayland LYNCH, Lee (Capie) LYNCH, Dee LYNCH, Delbert LYNCH and Blaine LYNCH; and parents, Bert and Lydia LYNCH.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Edward, John, Delbert, Jim, Dennis, Bob and Debby; sisters, Dixie WOODYARD, Edna PEDERSON and Eva CANNON; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12 at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Maloy, Iowa.
