DEATHS: William Jones, Tingley

MOUNT AYR -- William JONES, 79, of Tingley, died Tuesday (sic, should be Monday) at the Clearview Nursing Home.

His funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Ellston United Methodist Church. The Wilson-Watson Funeral home here has charge of arrangements. The Rev. Jim SCHUTTER will officiate with burial in the Ellston Cemetery. Visitation will be 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. JONES was born Jan. 24, 1905 in Union County. He married Hazel HULLINGER and she died Sept. 10, 1980.

He was a retired farmer and lifelong resident of Ringgold and Clarke counties.

Survivors include five sons, Lloyd of Afton, David of new Virginia, Ia., Robert of Tingley, Curt of Ellston and Kendrick of Mount Ayr; four daughters, Mary (Mrs. Jean) COLLIER of Simi, Calif., Mildred (Mrs. Ron) PITMAN of Littleton, Colo., Margaret (Mrs. Jim) THOMAS of Grand River, and Maxine (Mrs. J. B.) McGILVERY of Woodward, Ia.; 23 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Orville JONES of Tulare, Calif.

Memorials have been established to the Ellston United Methodist Church and the American Cancer Society.

OBITUARY - WILLIAM D. JONES

William JONES, son of Kendrick David and Julia Christian (WENZEL) JONES, was born at Spaulding, Iowa in Union County on January 24, 1905, and died October 29, 1984 at the Clearview Nursing home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, at the age of 79 years, nine months and five days.

His early childhood years were spent in Clarke County. In the spring of 1917 his family moved to Ringgold County where he lived with his parents until his marriage to Hazel Irene HULLINGER on October 4, 1927. To this union were born 11 children.

His entire life was sepnt in farming and raising livestock. The one hobby he enjoyed most was making molasses. Each year Iowa history students from a larger surround area toured his farm to observe this annual event.

Preceding him in death were his wife Hazel, children, Martha and Gene, half-brother Alvin JONES and half-sister Julia JONES PLACE.

His is survived by one brother, Orville of Tulare, Calif., and his sons and daughters - Lloyd and wife Mary of Afton; Robert of Tingley; David and his wife Genora of New Virginia; Mary and husband Jean COLLIER of Simi Valley, Calif; Mildred and husband Ronald PITTMAN of Littleton, Colo.; Margaret and husband Jim THOMAS of Grand River; Curtis and wife Sue of Ellston; Maxine and husband John McGILVERY of Woodward, and Kendrick and wife Janice of Mount Ayr; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at the United Methodist Church of Ellston, Iowa, on Friday, November 2, 1984. Officiating was rev. Jim SCHUTTER. Music was by Mrs. Leo MORGAN and Maurice JONES.

Casketbearers were Jeff JONES, Jerry JONES, Lonnie RILEY, Gary THOMAS, James COLLIER, and Richard THOMAS. Burial was in the Ellston Cemetery at Ellston, Iowa.

NOTE: Hazel Irene (HULLINGER) JONES was born January 11, 1909, Spaulding, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Bertell and Alice Lorette (HENDERSON) HULLINGER. She died at age 71 on September 10, 1980, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, with interment at Ellston Cemetery, Ellston, Ringgold County, Iowa.
