RUBY MARIE SWEENEY MILLS

Ruby Marie SWEENEY MILLS, daughter of James A. and Adeline F. (SCOTT) SWEENEY, was born Dec. 2, 1915 in the farm home near Caledonia, IA. Here she spent her childhood days. Ruby was educated in nearby rural schools and attended Caledonia Methodist church.

On Dec. 9, 1935, she was united in marriage to Willie D. MILLS and they made their home in Detroit, Michigan, later retiring to Mount Ayr, IA. Having no children of her own, neices and nephews held a special place in her heart and she enjoyed time spent with them. She was devoted to her family.

Ruby enjoyed the freedon of gardening and fishing, and was very creative in beautiful quilts and other crafts.

She departed this life September 30, 1990 at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 28 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one sister, Hazel SPENCER; two brothers, Ervin and William, who lost his live in France during WWII; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Marjorie (BUTLER) SWEENEY, and one brother-in-law, Duane CALHOUN.

Left to cherish her memory are two brothers, Cleo SWEENEY and wife Iva of Claremont, South Dakota and Russell SWEENEY of Mount Ayr; three sisters, Mamie CALHOUN and Velma CALDWELL and husband Glen of Mount Ayr and Nina GERMAN and husband Lloyd of Des Moines, IA, a host of relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Oct 4, 1990 at 1:30 PM from Wilson-Watson funeral Home in Mount Ayr, conducted by Rev. Victor BOLINGER.

Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, IA.

NOTE: Staff Sergeant William F. SWEENEY served with the U.S. Army, 377th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division during World War II. He was killed in action on Thursday, November 9, 1944 and interred in Plot J, Row 31, Grave 36 at Lorraine American Cemetery, St. Avold (Moselle), France. S SG William F. SWEENEY was awarded the Purple Heart.
