OBITUARY - GEORGE McDONALD

George MCDONALD, who for many years was a respected citizen of Kellerton, died suddenly at the home of C. E. BULLARD, near Beaconsfield last Saturday night. After eating a hearty supper he went to bed, and about half past eight o'clock, Mr. BULLARD went to his room to see if he was in need of anything, and found him dead. He had been in feeble health for several years.

George MCDONALD was born in Sciota County, Ohio, May 4, 1834, and came in his boyhood to DeWitt County, Ill., where he lived until 1862. When the 41st Ill. Volunteer Infantry was formed he enlisted in Co. F. He served three years and took part in the battle of Shiloh and other hard fought battles. In September, 1865, he was married to Harriet GATES, of Chicago. After the war he moved with his family to Iowa and lived in Decatur and Ringgold Counties until his death, which occurred July 26, 1902.

Five or six years ago he united with the Dunkard Church. He leaves a wife, a daughter, a son and a sister. A year or two ago he lost his mind and COL. L. R. HAVELY was appointed guardian, and as Mrs. MCDONALD was in poor health, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. BULLARD have been taking care of him.

Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. C. E. WOOD, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Kellerton Cemetery.
