OBITUARY.

Died, December 29, 1893, W. O. MATTINGLY, aged 59 years and 15 days. Mr. MATTINGLY was born December 14, 1834, in Mason county, Kentucky. Here he spent his early days and grew to manhood. He entered the union army [Company K of the 105th Illinois Volunteer Infantry] soon after the first gun was fired, and spent nearly four years in the service of his country and no doubt made a splendid soldier. Mr. MATTINGLY was married twice. The first time to Miss Matilda BROWN at Pine Bluffs, Arkansas, and she with two children died with yellow fever. Being left alone he came north, and in April 23, 1880 married Mrs. Jennie STOCKTON. They have one daughter. Mr. MATTINGLY has been a citizen of Ringgold since 1883 and has served as constable and perhaps in other capacites. For years his health has been poor and has been unable to labor. The funeral took place from the M. E. church on Sunday, December 31, 1893, and was conducted by Rev. C. L. NYE and the remains were laid in the Rose Hill cemetery [Mount Ayr].
