NOTICE of DEATH.
Floyd MAIN, one of Ringgold county's most highly respected citizens, passed away at his home near Beaconsfield Saturday [May 2, 1925], at two o'clock p. m. Mr MAIN was taken suddenly, ill with pains in the abdominal region soon after he went to the field to plant corn Friday morning. He tied his team to a fence and made his way to the house. Physicians were summoned and examination revealed a condition for which the only hope of relief lay in an surgical operation, but the patient grew weaker, making an operation impossible, and there was constant and rapid decline until the end.
Samuel Floyd MAIN, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. MAIN, was born January 14, 1872, in Mercer county, Illinois, and departed this life at his home near Beaconsfield, Iowa, May 2, 1925, being 53 years, three months and eighteen days of age.
At an early age he removed with his parents to Ringgold county, Iowa, where he has resided ever since, excepting a three years' adjourn to Montana.
On April 22, 1891, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella SHAFFER. To this union was born one child, Forrest (sic) F. MAIN.
When a young man, Mr. MAIN was converted and united with the Palestine U. B. church under the pastorate of Rev. L. A. FLEMING on the Blockton charge. He was an active member of the church for many years, serving as Sunday school teacher and as Sunday school superintendent and continued a member of that church until his death.
His last sickness was of short duration, he being at work in the field and came to the house very ill and passed away the next day about two o'clock.
He is survived by his father, Mr. S. M. MAIN, Des Moines; four brothers C. R. MAIN, Caldwell, Kan.; J. R. MAIN of Redding; F. W. MAIN of Waterloo, Iowa; and C. O. MAIN of Kansas City, Kansas; also he leaves two sisters, Auntie L. MANLEY of Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. E. G. MAGEL of Des Moines, Iowa. His wife and son, Forrest, (sic) also survive to suffer the deep loss of a teacher, husband and a loving father. He also leaves one grandson, Houston F. and several nieces and nephews.
He was a man of sterling character and of many friends and acquaintances, loved and respected by all that knew him and his sudden death comes as a shock and a sore bereavement to all.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. George W. HALL, pastor of the Beaconsfield M. E. church. The service was held in the M. E. church at Redding, Iowa, May 4 at 2:30 p. m. Interment was made in the Redding cemetery. A large concourse of people attended the funeral rites.
NOTE: Ella (SHAFFER) MAIN was born on May 9, 1869, and died on December 18, 1951. Forest Floyd MAIN, son of Ella (SCHAFFER) and Samuel "Floyd", was born in 1892, and died in 1975. Forest married Lela E. (1895-1991) on March 5, 1918. All interments were at Redding Cemetery, Redding, Ringgold County, Iowa.
