Robert Beach,
Former Resident,
Dies in Ia. City

Robert Beach, 62, a former Grinnell businessman, died Friday morning at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness. He had been living at 1815 High St., Iowa City.

The son of William and Mabel Turner Beach, he was born April 24, 1909, at Mason City. On June 29, 1935, he was married to Myrtle Niedert.

Mr. Beach operated the Broadway Department Store in Grinnell during the late 1940s and early 50s. He moved to Iowa City in 1958 where he was employed as a salesman for Federated Mutual Insurance Co. He was a member of the First Methodist church and the Iowa City Optimist Club.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Robert Jr. of Iowa City; two daughters, Mrs. James (Sandra) Freeman of Iowa City and Mrs. Richard (Marcia) DaPont of Aptos, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Edgar (Madaline) Hoover.

Funeral services for Mr. Beach were held t 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the George L. Gay Funeral Home in Iowa City, with burial in Memorial Gardens cemetery.
