OBITUARY

Andrew Jackson Thompson was born May 9, 1856 in Ohio. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thompson, and passed away at Grinnell, Iowa, October 2, 1930 at the age of seventy-four years, four months and twenty-two days.

He came with his parents, two brothers and one sister to Missouri in a covered wagon. One brother died while on the way and was buried in Illinois. The mother died the following year. The father enlisted in the Civil War, in Kansas Cavalry, leaving the children with a colored mammy. One year later his company passed through the vicinity of his old home, he took Andy, the only one living, with him to the army. He was with his father over a year. His father then got a furlough and brought Andy to his Uncle, John Thompson in Muscatine County, Iowa with whom he made his home for over twenty years. He has lived in Grinnell and vicinity for over forty years. His father died in 1911.

He leaves to mourn his loss, four cousins: James Thompson of Montezuma, Joe Thompson of Grinnell, John Thompson of Valley Junction and Ed Thompson south of Grinnell, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Friends Church, conducted by Rev. Robert Lincoln. Burial was at Ewart.
