VERNON PARGEON, 80

Vernon L. Pargeon, 80,of Montezuma, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Jan. 24 at Watts Funeral Home. Pastor Warren James from the Regular Baptist Church officiated. Mrs. Kathleen Ramsey was the organist and Mrs. Rhonda Minner was the soloist. Music selections were "Amazing Grace," "He Grew The Tree," and "Red Wing." Casket bearers were Mike Pargeon, Wes Pargeon, Curt Pargeon, Daryl Pargeon, Randy Klein, Bill Freeborn, Kenny Gregson, Terry Green and Chris Duncan. Burial was in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.

Vernon L. Pargeon was born on Nov. 2, 1916 at Curryville, Mo., the son of Errett L. and Hester Ann (Wilson) Pargeon. He attended country school at Curryville. He moved to Iowa, where he farmed. On Oct. 15, 1940, he was united in marriage with Pauline Sanders at Oskaloosa. To this union, three children were born. They farmed in the Malcom and Montezuma area before retiring to Montezuma. He became a resident of the Montezuma Senior Home in 1985. Pauline died June 5, 1986.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Richard Paul Pargeon; and a brother, Ralph in 1938.

Vernon is survived by his three children and their spouses, Donna and Ivan Klein of Montezuma; Paul and Beverly Pargeon of Searsboro; and Ray and Betty Pargeon of New Sharon; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn and Orlan (Andy) both of Bowling Green, Mo.; two sisters, Lois Ann Smith of Bowling Green, Mo., and Eunice Dias of Reno, Nev.; and other relatives and many friends.

Memorials may be made to the Montezuma Volunteer Fire Department.
