Conduct Funeral Services Today For Hugh Sanders

Hugh [Clark] Sanders, 85, of Grinnell, died Friday morning at a Newton hospital following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Rain, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner.

Serving as pallbearers were Ray Urfer, Sam Urfer, James Urfer, Everett Blackwood, Russell Sanders and George Dougherty. Interment was in the Guernsey, Iowa, cemetery.

The son of James E. and Ella C. Wherry Sanders, he was born Sept. 12th, 1880, on a farm near Guernsey. He received his education in the rural schools of that community.

He farmed most of his life in the Guernsey and Newton areas and following his retirement, moved to Grinnell where he was employed for a time at the Grinnell Implement Store.

Mr. Sanders was a member of the United Presbyterian church.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Rowland of Des Moines and Mrs. Ida Blackwood of Newton; and one brother, John H. Sanders of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Celia Urfer and Esther Dougherty.
