SERVICES TUESDAY FOR MRS. GALBRAITH

Elvera Galbraith, 64, died Saturday, Aug. 10, of cancer at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Briggs, pastor of First Friends Church, officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud. Pallbearers were Everett Leadly, Jody Matherly, Orval Matherly, Marty Minear, Ron Minear, Bill White and David White. Fraternal rites were conducted by the members of the Grinnell Eagles Auxiliary. Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.

The daughter of Byard D. and Catherine Stafford Edwards, she was born Oct. 1, 1922, at Napor, Neb. She moved with her family to a farm southeast of Grinnell where she attended Pleasant Township #9 School and later graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1941.

In 1940 she was married to Carl Johannes in Des Moines. The couple farmed near Montezuma and were the parents of a son Robert. Mr. Johannes died in 1954 and in 1958 she moved to Grinnell where she worked in the food department at Grinnell College. On June 18, 1960, she was married to Floyd M. Galbraith. She worked as a receptionist for Dr. William Schroeder DVM and later worked as a housekeeper for Cross Country Motel and Grinnell State Bank.

She was member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eagles Auxiliary, the Pony Express and the Moose Lodge Women.

She was preceded in death by her father and both her husbands. She is survived by her mother Catherine McCallum, Grinnell; one son Robert D. Johnannes, Dickinson, Texas; two stepdaughters Sharon Matherly, South Houston, Texas, and Betty Jo Minear, Grinnell; one stepson Timothy Galbraith, Odessa, Texas; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters Marge White, Newton and Violet Leadly, Buckeye, Ariz.; and three brothers Francis Edwards, Kansas City, Mo., Paul Edwards, Phoenix, Ariz, and Herschel Edwards, Marshalltown.
