MARJORIE V. REED

Marjorie V. Reed, 84, of Grinnell died Sunday, Jan. 11, at St. Francis Manor.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Jan. 15, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Del Dawes, retired, officiating. Memorials may be made to the Marjorie V. Reed Memorial Fund.

She was born July 6, 1918, in Iowa City to Frank and Daisy Wood Couper. She was raised in Malcom and Grinnell and educated in the Grinnell school district. She was married on March 28, 1936, to Oran Thomas Reed and they made their home in Grinnell. She was employed first at Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg, then for 30 years at the Maytag Company in Newton, retiring in 1980. Following her retirement she lived in Malcom, then returned to Grinnell in 1996.

She is survived by five daughters, Barbara Nichols of Montezuma; Patricia Pitts of Grinnell, Bonnie Freed of Marshalltown, Susan Schmidt of Kellogg and Cindy Lacey of Grinnell; two sons, Charles Reed of Guttenberg and Donald Reed of Boise, Idaho; 25 grandchildren; several great and great great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bonnie Schaefer of Carmel, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Thomas Reed and one in infancy; three sisters, Myrtle Gilliam, Beatrice Yanacek and Betty Lou Couper; and one brother in infancy.
