--James H. Porter, an early settler in this city, died at the Soldiers Home at Marshalltown Sunday evening of senile dementia and general debility at 73 years of age. He enlisted with a number of others from this city in the Fourth Iowa regimental band in 1861 and was discharged at Rolla, Mo., in 1862. He left here some years ago and went to Wisconsin. In 1904 he entered the Soldiers Home. His wife, Mrs. Phoebe Porter, of Stevens Point, Wis., survives him.
