LEWIS FOLAND
DIES WEDNESDAY

Lewis Foland, one of Grinnell's oldest residents, passed away early Wednesday morning at his home at 1283 Spencer street. He was 82 years of age his last birthday. Funeral services are being held this afternoon from Snyder Bros. Chapel, conducted by Rev. A.B. Cadwell. Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

Death came suddenly at 2 o'clock, when he suffered a heart attack. He had been feeling exceptionally well the day before, having walked to a nearby street letter box to mail a letter he had written.

He is survived by his wife, a foster daughter, Anna, now Mrs. A.C. Phillips of near Hibbing, Minn., and a foster son, Faye, living in Kansas City.

Lewis Foland was born in Perkinsville, Madison county, Ind., on May 20, 1848. He grew up in Perkinsville, and on Oct. 20, 1875, was married to Matilda Lee. In 1878 the Folands moved to Iowa settling in Pocahontas county. In 1912 they moved to Grinnell to make their home. In October of this year, they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary at their home on Spencer street.

Mr. Foland was a great church worker in Pocahontas county, and was a class leader in the Sunday school there.
