Lee Eldridge Dies After Long Illness

Formerly a Prominent Insurance Man Here and at Des Moines.

Lee Earl Eldridge, 1404 E. 10th street passed away at Mercy Hospital, Davenport, Scott, IA at 2 o'clock this morning after a lingering illness.

The deceased was born in Davenport Oct. 10, 1876 and was the son of the late Theodore and Mrs Anna [Parkhurst] Eldridge. He received his education in the public schools of Davenport and was united in marriage to Miss Ada Schoonmaker at Detroit, Minn on Sept 1, 1906.

For many years Mr. and Mrs. Eldridge made their home in Des Moines, Ia, where he was associated with the Home of New York, Scottish Union and National Fire Insurance Association of Philadelphia as state agent of Iowa.

He was prominent in Masonic circles in Des Moines, being a member of Pioneer lodge No. 22 Orient Consistory, No 3 and Zagazig temple.

Surviving beside the widow are his mother, Mrs. Anna P. Eldridge, and one sister, Miss Cora Mae Eldridge, all of Davenport.

The body was removed to the Hill & Fredrick's mortuary and was returned to the late home where friends of the family are invited to attended the services to be held at 5 o'clock Friday afternoon. The Rev. LeRoy M. Coffman, D.D. will officiate. Interment will be in Oakdale [Memorial Gardens] Cemetery.
[Father Theodore Fortiner Eldridge built the first apartment building in Davenport and named it after his children - Cora-Lee-Roy Apartments at 6th & Brady, sw corner. Ada and Lee had no children and nothing is known about her (2008)]. I have another source on Lee where info on Ada does not exist after Lee's death. Since she was not named in the obit, I'm guessing they divorced in Polk County btw Sept 1, 1906 (marriage date) and Lee's death 26 Jan 1928 in Davenport, Scott, IA. I haven't checked census yet. (Oct 2008)

The Davenport Daily Democrat & Leader 26 Jan 1928.
