Robert W. De Jong, 63, of Alton, Iowa, formerly of Struble, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Sioux Center Health. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Luke Cargin will officiate. Burial with military honors by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion will take place at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Robert William De Jong was born on July 17, 1961, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Arnold Charles and Carole (Lahr) De Jong. He attended Le Mars Community High School. Following his education, Robert helped his father with trucking. He enlisted in the United States Army on July 21, 1980. Following an Honorable Discharge, Robert served with the Iowa National Guard and was stationed in Le Mars.
Robert drove truck for his entire career. He drove long haul loads for numerous companies over the years. His children, Blaine and Heather, often rode with him. Robert’s final job was an owner/operator for Nelson Transportation. When he wasn’t driving, Robert loved auctions and collecting antique toys. He had a memorable sense of humor.
He will be missed by his son, Blaine De Jong of Alton, IA; a daughter, Heather De Jong of Clarinda, IA; a step-son, Dennis Stammer of Atlantic, IA; his mother, Carole De Jong of Sioux City, IA; three grandchildren, Evelynn Herbst, Zelda Herbst and Halo De Jong; and a sister, Suzanne Reagan of Orange City, IA.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Arnold on June 22, 2024; and a brother-in-law, Preston Reagan.
