Funeral services for Merlin A. “Curly” Eberhard, 84, of Albert Lea, formerly of Montevideo, Minn., will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 1, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Rev. Warren Broughton will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery, Montevideo.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, Albert Lea, is in charge of arrangements.
Curly died Wednesday, June 26, 1996, at St. John’s Lutheran Home, Albert Lea.
Curly was born May 16, 1912, in Hungerford Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Jacob J. and Marie L. (Kalas) Eberhard.
He moved to New Rockford, N. D., with his parents, as a young child. He graduated from New Rockford High School. He attended college at Valley City, N. D.
On Nov. 7, 1937, Curly was united in marriage to Katherine E. Ellertson in Montevideo. They lived in Valley City for several years where he managed the Red Owl Store.
They later moved to Montevideo where he owned and operated a restaurant, living there until two years ago.
Curly worked on the Alcan Highway during World War II. He retired from the railroad where he worked as a construction crew cook.
Curly was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine of Albert Lea; daughter, Barbara and her husband Sheldon Lundgren of Albert Lea; son Bruce of Rem Homes, Montevideo; son, Steve and his wife Lois Eberhard of Clarkfield, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Caryl Devereaux, of Fargo, N.D.; and nieces and nephews.
Merlin was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
