DEATH COMES TO ESTEEMED AKRON MAN NOVEMBER 6
Last Rites Are Held For Edor Johnson Saturday Afternoon
Brief mention was made in these columns last week of the death of an esteemed resident of this community, Eldor Johnson, who departed this life at the Veterans’ Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday morning November 6, 1948, after an illness of several months. At the time of his death he was 53 years, 4 months and 23 days of age.
Carl Edor Johnson was born in Tranemo, Vastergottland, Sweden, June 14, 1893. He was baptized in infancy and was confirmed in the Lutheran church of Sweden. In 1913 he came to America and to Akron, Iowa, and during the following year was received as a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron.
He entered the Armed Forces of the United States during the First World War and served several months overseas in France. He was a member of the American Legion at the time of his death.
On May 27, 1922 he was married to Miss Minnie Johnson. They made their new home then on the farm where they have lived ever since.
As a loyal and devoted member of his church, he served faithfully on the Immanuel church board, both as a trustee and as a deacon. He was a member of the board of deacons at the time of his death.
Those mourning his departure include his wife, Mrs. Minnie Johnson, his mother Mrs. Maria Johnnson in Sweden; one sister, Agnes Johnsnson in Sweden; four brothers Gunnar and Ollis in Sweden; Arthur and Helge of Akron.
His father, Johan August Johnnson, died in 1931, and a sister Irma preceded him in death in December, 1945.
A kind and devoted husband, a good neighbor, and a valued friend Mr. Johnson will be missed and mourned sincerely in the community.
In spite of most unfavorable weather conditions Saturday afternoon, there was a large attendance at the funeral. Devotional services were held at the home and funeral services at 2:30 o’clock in Immanuel Lutheran church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. David J. Roy. Hymns were sung by a male quartet comprised of Harry B. Nelson, Bob Shoulberg, Arden and Clifford Johnson. Acting as pallbearers were neighbors of the deceased: L. D. Ross, Evan Harris, Bernard Lucken, Everett Stoner, Albert Witt and Orval Jurgensen. Members of Hoschler Post, America Legion, had charge of the military burial service in Riverside cemetery.
Out of town relatives in attendance at the services were; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Franzen, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Kilstrom of Sioux City; Darrell Johnson of Finley, North Dakota.
